Absentee Commission Bids

When there is an auction about to take place in the next few days or weeks, then this is the page -

  • where you can place your absentee commission bids (left bids),
  • look at the bids you have already placed, and
  • build up your list of bids before sending your bids to us.

If you use this online system we will try to acquire the item(s) you have left bids on for the lowest possible price on the day of the Auction - you do not necessarily end up paying the "highest bid" that you have indicated. The final hammer price will depend on who else is bidding on the day.

HOW THIS SYSTEM WORKS – PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!

If you want to leave a bid then keep on adding items to your “left bids” basket with each of your maximum bids by clicking on the green “PLACE BID” buttons alongside each catalogue entry. By clicking on the "PLACE BID" button, you are only adding items to your basket - at this stage there is NO commitment. Indeed, you can withdraw bids right up to the day of the sale. The bids are only recorded at the end of the process - in the meantime you can always remove bids from the system or alter them.

  • After reaching this page, you will see the item listed that you have chosen – type in your maximum bid, then press Enter on the keyboard or click on the “SAVE MY BID” button.
  • If you want to leave a bid on another item then use the back button on your browser and go back to the catalogue and repeat the exercise.
  • Only when you have finished selecting all the lots on which you want to bid:
  • complete the personal details requested,
  • and, after reading and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions
  • click on the button marked “PLACE MY BIDS”.

Until that point is passed bids will not be made at the next auction. Even after that, you can withdraw bids at any time up to the day of the Auction (see below).

You only need to fill in your personal contact details on this page once you have got at least one item in your "basket".

CANCELLING LEFT BIDS

If you need to cancel your bids or to make any changes to your bids after notifying us, please follow the instructions in the confirmation email that you will receive after submitting this information. Please make sure you keep a copy of the confirmation email for future reference. Bids for more than one lot can be made in a single submission using this system.

BIDS VIA THIS SYSTEM CAN ONLY BE ACCEPTED UP TO 12 NOON ON THE DAY OF THE SALE. Unsuccessful bids will not be acknowledged after the sale.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: in the confirmation email that you will receive when you submit commission bids, it may refer to an additional charge on successful purchases of each lot. This is incorrectly stated - the additional charge is a maximum of £10 however many items you are successful in bidding for and the charge is not £10 per item.
